“AQUA+ TANK”, planned and produced by stu, received the Jury’s Special Award, Yasuko Sato Award (Show Window & Visual Design Space) at the KUKAN DESIGN AWARD 2023.


“AQUA+ TANK” was selected as a Shortlist (141 winning entries) from the 779 entries received this year. In addition, 11 works other than the Gold, Silver, and Bronze Award winners, which were evaluated from the third round judges’ unique perspective, received the Jury’s Special Award based on the recommendation of Ms. Yasuko Sato, a member of the judging panel.


Project Overview
This is a permanent digital installation for the training center in the Kurita Innovation Hub, a new R&D center opened by Kurita Water Industries Ltd. in Akishima City, Tokyo. Nikken Sekkei and SCA collaborated on conceptual design, experience design, fixture design, and video content production. stu was primarily responsible for planning, creative direction, art direction, simulation, and design.


Planning Intent
The project was planned and produced with the aim of presenting a showcase of employee training and corporate messages in the form of a plant facility for employee training, with a cylindrical LED display resembling an actual tank interlocking with the spatial lighting to create the impression of an aquarium or stage in a 70-meter-wide space. The LED tanks are used for employee training, seminars, time reports, and messages to local residents and visitors.
